An Appeal to the Netizens

I made this Neocities with a mission in mind: reject the garbage being fed to us by the algorithms of the large social media companies, and bring back creativity online. I believe the Web should belong to the people in the sense that we should be able to create and express ourselves freely on our own corners of the Web, and that this is being impeded by the censorship, blandness and monopolisation of the social media companies we know today. I remember growing up when there was a sense of community online: forums, chatrooms, small personal websites where you could get a taste of the personality of its author, et cetera. These things are becoming obsolete for various reasons, and 'surfing the Web' today seems to be a thing of the past, for many. In my opinion, even a lot of content online has become uniform, sterile and unimaginative, and instead of being a place where ideas and creativity run free, the Web, as laid out by the social media giants, seems like a maze of deadly lasers you wouldn't dare step over (Aren't short-form videos draining and addictive? Isn't it almost impossible to migrate to alternative solutions because of the fear that no one else will migrate? Doesn't it feel like these companies have an unforgiving grip on the masses?). If you feel the same way, I appeal to you today: Be the change you want to see. Don't let what the mass media has become today pressure you into being someone you don't want to be, or into consuming content you don't want to consume. Discover alternative websites and solutions, and on the social media giants, don't be afraid to stand out. Be creative. Be free.
